The Kampala via Masindi route: this is the most direct route you can choose while on a self drive to Murchison. This does introduce you to the southern part of the park. On the same route just right after Masindi to Para, you will be able to come across the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – where you can go and see rhinos in their habitat and then entering the park through the Kichumbanyombo gate through Kaniyo padidi forest and then to Paraa.

Best time to go on a self drive to Murchison

The best to self drive to Murchison is during the dry season of the year which does take place between the months of June to September and December to February. It’s during this time that most roads within the park are less slippery and easy to navigate.

During the wet season of the year, the park receives a lot of rainfall like the other places around the country making it hard to drive through since it’s more slippery and impassable. This season does take place within the months of March to May and October to early December.
